CV Writing Tips

It should fit on one side of A4 paper. Two if you are David Attenborough and there really are a million things you need to tell us.

Personal Details
Keep these to a minimum. How tall you are, your place of birth and the state of your health do not generally have an impact upon your ability to do a job. However, make sure that your contact details are all there and absolutely correct. All our job offers are sent recorded mail and Pos Express will not deliver to a P.O.Box. Similarly you don't want to be in KK whilst your job offer rots at your parents address in Tawau.

Education
Highest first. You should list dates, qualification title, grade (GPA is not your grade) and institution. It is not necessary to list every module you did in a Marine Science degree, it is understood that you studied invertebrate biology and how the moon affects the tides.
Only list your other education if it is relevant. E.g. you hold a degree and a diploma, or you have 'A' levels in Biology even though your diploma is Tourism.
Where you went to primary school is really not relevant.

Other Qualifications and Skills
These are quite important and are an opportunity for you to stand out from the crowd. Be descriptive if you think it's relevant. E.g. PADI open water diver – 15 logged dives. Clean D class driving license with own transport. Fluent in Mandarin and English.

Experience
Fill this space. Tell us what you've done, what you learnt, whether you enjoyed it. Be descriptive if you want to. Things like work experience, employment history, research assistant positions, girl guide leader – What makes YOU special.

References
The more professional your references, the better. Your tutor, your supervisor, your high school teacher. Only list your auntie if you don't actually know anyone else.
