Sabah, Borneo contains some of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet, yet these habitats are in severe danger of destruction and degradation due to human activity. There is, therefore, an urgent need to conserve these natural treasures for the enjoyment of future generations. At Aquatica, our main aim is to reveal the beauty of such ecosystems and promote conservation through raised awareness of environmental issues.

Coral reefs are being lost faster than the rainforest.
Staff from Aquatica have been concerned about Coral reef decline for many years. We have studied in many places to gather information which shows that Reefs in Sabah are being seriously degraded, mainly by blast fishing, cyanide fishing and reef trawling. Pollution, landfill and erosion from logging or land clearing are locally very destructive. Obviously individual species are suffering: Sharks from the shark fin soup trade, many large edible fish from the live fish food trade, and Turtles : to name just a few.
